I read about the launch of this latest surf photo book on Chris Burkards Facebook page, I enjoyed his first book, The California Surf Project, and this one looks like it will be a bit more varied with featuring surf photography and travel across the globe, rather than just the sunshine state.
EDIT: This is the text from the newsletter e-mail with a little more info’:
I am beyond stoked to release my latest book project, it feels like it been in the making my whole career.
Spanning over 6 continents, the book takes you from the remote coastlines of the Arctic to the crowded streets of India. Searching for wild, remote destinations and offbeat landscapes, it portrays the humble placement of humans in contrast to nature. This book is huge, it’s 11.5 x 15.5 inches and the photos are almost double the size of a surf magazine!
Here’s the link to purchase the book:
The subtitle is surfing the ends of the earth, and the cover image shows off some spectacular cold scenery, so although there’s not too much to go on at the moment it looks like it could be along the same sort of lines as Tim Nunn’s Numb, which I liked a lot.
It’s hard to tell at this stage whether it’s just a photo book, or if it’s got any writing in there too, hopefully there will be a bit of text to accompany the images, but judging from the sample photo’s there’s plenty on offer for anyone getting into surf photography either way.
It costs $39.95 direct in the USA, shipping to the UK is a bit steep at $23 so I’ll be waiting until it’s available through a UK distributor before picking up a copy (although shipping within the US is not much cheaper at $18), I know this is the kind of book I’d like to own and have on the coffee table, but I can’t help thinking a digital version would be another great option, I’m going to be going on a few long plane journeys soon and I’d be very tempted to get a copy for my tablet, then pick up a print version when I can get one for a reasonable shipping cost.
EDIT: now available from Amazon.co.uk for about £19 with free delivery here.
