Jack Coleman – Surf Filmmakers Packing List on Korduroy.tv

I hadn’t heard of Jack Coleman before seeing this post on Korduroy.tv, but I’m a sucker for seeing gear laid out, as you will know if you’ve ever dug around in the archives of this site.

Be sure to click through to read about all these goodies, I’ve checked out the last few Packing list posts on the Korduroy site and I’ve been pretty underwhelmed, they have not sated my desire for the technical details of the equipment pro surf photographers use (I know that gear isn’t the most important thing, but I am fascinated by what stuff people actually use to create their images) and sometimes read like the manufacturers marketing blurb.

Typical entries from such high profile lens men as Todd Glaser and Chris Burkard include:

a digital camera or two

and

SmartSTRIKE Pro is the perfect charge and sync cable if you have a Lightning and micro USB device.

And there hasn’t been a good old fashioned top down gear shot amongst them, well Jack Coleman has pulled this seemingly moribund series back into my view finder, and although I kind of doubt that he travels to Hawaii with all this gear, it’s great to see and read about some classic surf photo and film equipment.

An eclectic mix of kit for sure, and his style of film making is not my bag, but it’s inspiring to see someone working outside the usual gear, I especially like the idea of the film housing, I keep banging on about trying out film in my own housing, I might actually do it some time soon (or at least in Autumn when there’s some swell).
